This week students will:

  1. Examine the relationship between leadership skills, traits and behavior and employee motivation.
  2. Compare the ERG theory of motivation and Maslow’s theory of motivation.
  3. Evaluate the three theories of situational leadership and how each relates to leadership within an organization.

Introduction

For Week Five, the focus will be on leadership traits, skills, and behaviors. A review of leadership theories and how they influence leadership practices is included. This week’s content will also examine the concept of motivation and how effective leadership practices influence employee motivation and productivity.

Week 5 – Discussion 1

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Read the article, A Theory of Human Motivation.” Based on the information presented in the article, discuss the elements of self-esteem, esteem needs, and belonging to a group. What is the relationship between self-esteem, esteem needs, and belonging to a group? Why is it important for a manager to understand and appreciate employees’ self-esteem, esteem needs, and belonging to a group?
