Perform a Passive Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) on a Selected Company

The wealth of publicly available information is staggering, and ranges from detailed financial information to social media history. Using the science of open source intelligence gathering, you will perform a passive reconnaissance on a company.

Select a company from the list of Fortune 500 Companies located in the topic Resources. Using the Fake Name Generator, create an investigator persona and use it to generate an email account. Then, using OSINT techniques, conduct a passive online investigation of the selected company.

In a minimum of 500 words, document the process as you go so it can be replicated; use screen captures to prove the completion of each step. At a minimum, include the following findings:

  1. Registered corporate name
  2. Address of corporate headquarters
  3. Phone number(s)
  4. Type of organization
  5. Geo location
  6. Board of directors or senior officer’s names, email addresses, and phone numbers
  7. Registered IP address range(s)
  8. Website URL and IP address
  9. Registered domain name and name server(s)
  10. Sensitive corporate documents, such as .docs, .xls, and .pdf
  11. Report the findings of your investigation. As this is part of a digital forensics investigation, you must provide your step-by-step methodology.

Note: If you need to provide your name or email address for any of the searches that you conduct, use your online investigator persona.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
