Explain how variability affects outcomes
Variability
Entropy is “lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.”
Variability is “lack of consistency or fixed pattern; liability to vary or change.”
Weather data has been collected over the past century or so surrounding the city of New Orleans. The idea is to use data and computers to establish design parameters to protect the city from the Gulf of Mexico that constantly threatens the city with rising water.
However, variability of the data produced by anomalous weather events, makes it hard to predict accurate weather. In a 500-700 words:
- Explain how variability affects outcomes.
- How to identify anomalous events.
- How to identify the meaning of anomalous events
- How have/should the algorithms been updated to ensure that failures like the Hurricane Katrina disaster can be avoided in the future.
Make sure to review “Anomaly-Based Weather Analysis versus Traditional Total-Field-Based Weather Analysis for Depicting Regional Heavy Rain Events,” located in the Topic Materials.
