The Capstone Project is an opportunity for you to bring together everything you have learned within your MBA program and integrate that into your next steps as a professional.

This project will require you to construct a detailed and well-thought-out analysis of a real-world business issue or topic by employing many of the business theories, concepts, and strategic analysis tools studied throughout your MBA program. The capstone project will take the full term to complete. A portion of the project will be completed and submitted within Modules 1, 3, 5, 6 & 7 with the final submission due during Module 8.

The overall project is worth 75% of your final course grade. Unless otherwise noted, all submitted work will be formatted to APA (American Psychological Association) standards, with citations and references included. For the final deliverable, you are expected to incorporate all updates into one cohesive document, with a cover page, executive summary, table of contents, and a reference section.

Capstone Project Part 1: Choose Your Project – Due Module 1 (10%)

For your BUS 699 Project, you are going to be able to demonstrate some of the knowledge, skills, and abilities you have developed through your academic and professional background. This project is designed as an opportunity to create something that is relevant to your “real” life and can be useful to you and/or your organization.

Your first milestone should include the following:

  • The project you chose and “why” you chose it.
  • The challenges you anticipate you might encounter while solving the issues you have identified in the project.
  • The strategies you will employ to overcome these potential barriers.

This assignment should be 3 to 4 pages in length, include evidence-based research, and be formatted following APA guidelines.

Capstone Project Part 2: Annotated Bibliography – Due Module 3 (10%)

The Annotated Bibliography is designed to get you focused on the literature related to your project. You will be asked to share at least 15 scholarly and industry-related sources that will help to inform your project.

Each source should include a synopsis of the source and how it will inform the final project. The assignment should be formatted following APA guidelines.

Capstone Project Part 3: Outline and Abstract – Due Module 5 (10%)

The Outline and Abstract will include a detailed outline of your final project. By this time, you have a clear pathway for your paper.

Your detailed outline should include:

  • A clear pathway for your project including headings that outline the detail of your content. Please see for “Final project guideline” for an example of what should be included in this assignment.
  • A 150-word abstract that summarizes the key elements of your project.

Capstone Project Part 4: Introduction and Conclusion – Due Module 6 (10%)

This assignment includes the introduction and conclusion of your final project. Keep in mind you want to start and end strong! Please review the source material within Module 6 to be sure you are including all elements of a strong introduction and conclusion. Your introduction should set the stage and include a thesis of your paper. Your conclusion should be a clear summary, analysis and include your final thoughts.

Capstone Project Part 5: Narrated Presentation- Due Module 7 (10%)

In part 5 of your Capstone Project, the Narrated Presentation, you are creating a video or screencast presentation of your project.  (Note: You will share your presentation with your classmates in Module 8.)

Assignment Instructions

In your Narrated Presentation you will present the key ideas and highlights of your capstone project.

  • For this assignment, please assume the audience is a leadership team within your organization.
  • Include notes or a reference area that document your sources within your presentation.
  • Your Narrated Presentation should be 2 -3 minutes in length.
  • To ensure the accessibility of your presentation, you will need to also include transcripts or closed captioning. A suggestion is to create your script prior to narrating or recording your presentation. You can then upload your script document as your transcript with your presentation file or URL.
  • You may use a variety of tools including the Canvas video toolPowerPoint with narration, the free versions of Screen-Cast-O-Matic,Zoom, Adobe Spark, or another tool of your choice.
  • You may submit your deliverable as a file attachment, a media upload, or as a URL (for online presentation tools).
  • For any online presentation tools that you use, be sure that (1) you have set the online viewing permissions so that your classmates and instructor will be able to view your presentation and (2) that you provide the presentation URL as part of your submission.

Capstone Project Part 6: Final Project Submission – Due Module 8 (25%)

The Capstone Final Project is an opportunity for you to bring together concepts, skills and practices you have learned within your MBA program and integrate them into your next steps as a professional.

You will construct a detailed and well-thought-out analysis of a real-world business that employs many of the business theories, concepts, and relevant strategic analysis tools studied in the MBA program. This week’s deliverable integrates the analysis, recommendations, revisions, instructor feedback, and student learning from all of the sections from the previous weeks into one cohesive document.

Your final paper will be a minimum of 10 pages in length, use APA formatting, and follow this structure:

  • Cover Page
  • Executive Summary
  • Table of Contents
  • Introduction
  • Description of your project including the reasons why you chose it and what you hope to gain from the project.
  • Answers to the following questions:
    1. How can you utilize your transformational leadership skills towards moving this project forward?  Please specifically consider multiple constituencies with divergent needs including ethical objections and social responsibility.
    2. How will you address the change management process as part of your project. How will you include setting direction, aligning and motivating employees toward this change?
    3. What are the risk and entrepreneurial solutions for sustainability innovation that delivers economic and social value?
    4. Does this project have global impact?  Why or why not?
    5. What cultural difference do you see as having a potential impact on best practices?
    6. Application of one or more managerial theories you can apply as you move this project forward.
