This assignment is a comprehensive classroom management plan that addresses the classroom as a learning environment. You are required to explain, reason, and provide justification from all the required readings and research to address the essential components of the learning environment, as described below. Your plan must focus on:
- Setting high expectations in a diverse classroom
- Helping students understand professionalism standards while becoming class leaders in areas where they can grow and share their expertise
- Dealing with a crisis without putting yourself at risk professionally or physically
- Preparing a classroom environment that is helpful for student growth and learning
- Creating a classroom environment that fulfills the needs of employers in the 21st century
- Responding, in an equitable way, to situations that evolve due to IEPs, BSPs, ELL students, homeless students, and those with special circumstances
While keeping the above foci in mind, develop your classroom management plan including the following individual components:
Part 1: Expectations in a well-managed classroom
Section A. :Rapport and Expectations:
How do you establish rapport with your students and set the expectation for the rules for your classroom at the start of the term? In this section, you will establish your reflection on how to treat each student as an individual, understanding that the needs of all your students are important to build an environment that showcases mutual respect and understanding.
Section B. :Growing Class Leadership
In this section, you will provide an explanation and rationale for teaching students the importance of all the professional skills and attributes necessary for them to develop the strategies and skills to learn how to self-manage, understand leadership skills, and give them the tools to be college and career ready. Focus on how this will also help your classroom be a strong learning environment with few behavioral challenges.
Section C. :Communication Plan
This section requires you to provide clear plans for how you will explain your expectations to both students and parents. You need a clear plan regarding behavior in your classroom to make sure there are no misunderstandings. How will you build a classroom environment such that, when a crisis happens you already have a plan in place and can act immediately? Or more importantly, how can you have a plan in place that prevents a crisis from happening?
Section D. :Classroom Environment
In this section, you will provide specific best practices, policies and protocols that align with what you have learned about creating a sense of the importance of learning. Share specific ideas and resources you will have or need to have to build a community of leaders in your classes.
Section E. :Preparing Students for College and Careers
For this section, you will showcase your learning of what it takes to give students the tools they need to be professionals, beginning in your classroom, so they have time to practice the behaviors and skills employers expect. How will you include specific lessons on workplace readiness and the need to be professional while dealing with conflict, time management issues, safety issues, communication skills, and productivity leading to a well-run classroom and the foundation for the students as they graduate?
Section F. :Embracing Diversity
This section requires you to share what you have learned about dealing with all your students and the resources you will need to impact the lives of students with special needs, various socio-economic backgrounds, cultural differences, and those children who may need extra assistance due to legal challenges. Section G. Personal Thoughts Add an additional component of your choosing.
Reflection After you have illustrated the components of your classroom management plan, reflect on your own learning about classroom management by responding to the following:
- How you will implement the components needed for a well-managed classroom?
- How have you grown as an educator? How will you ensure equity to all learners you encounter?
- How has your management philosophy or approach impacted (or not) your beliefs on learning?
Support your statements with evidence from the required studies and your research. Cite and reference your sources in APA style.
