In the realm of marketing, a successful branding strategy is one of the most important contributors to organizational success. A solid branding strategy can help add visibility and credibility to a company’s products.

Similarly, nurse-scholars can build a personal brand to add visibility and credibility to their work. You can begin building your brand by developing and maintaining an academic portfolio. Such an activity can help share the results of your efforts and contribute to your success. This Module’s Discussion asks you to consider and share strategies for building your portfolio.

Academic portfolios play an crucial role in providing a potential employer with information and a first information of a nurse (Ahmed, 2016). This helps in painting an images of the person that you are, what you can offer, your qualifications, and what you plan to achieve once given an opportunity to work in a certain organization. Making an academic portfolio stand out in a personal resume is what may catch the attention of the hiring personnel and subsequently an interview. This is why one should avoid a generic cut and paste kind of objective in a resume.

A portfolio provides a useful tool in which one can showcase their professional works. Portfolios offer direct examples of an individual’s past achievements and projects. A basic academic portfolio should contain a record of previous works, a recommendation letter, a professional statement, a resume, a table of content, academic achievements, and certifications. Similarly, it is wise for nursing scholars to personalize their respective marketable skill and ensure they build their personal brands. This helps them to give their works credibility as they build their personal brands. In marketing of a nursing scholar, the first step should be to develop an academic portfolio. The benefits of including ones accomplishments and academic activities into an academic portfolio cannot be ignored.

Strategies

The strategies that I can focus on for the purpose of enhancing my academic portfolio as a nurse scholar include showing my specialized research projects, highlighting achievements, listing teaching and leadership roles, and including specialized roles. One ought to keep their important documents in one definitive place so that updating the curriculum vitae or resume is easier.

The first step a nurse scholar should take is to gather and assemble all material that show his/her academic achievements. One should ensure that the quality of the materials used in the academic portfolio are in good quality. Customize the name so that it can stand out and show an ownership sense towards the portfolio. It also good if one can showcase their projects and assignments carried out. Additionally, it is important for one to divide and classify their portfolio into sections. One should also keep up to date with market trends, ensuring that they learn and research them for the purpose of building and maintaining a portfolio that is current (Jung & Kim, 2017).

Professionalism

In my case, an online platform is a great place to focus on using for the development of one’s portfolio. For example, Google Docs as it offers an easy way to access and compile items. With an online platform, one can access their academic portfolio anywhere. Additionally, an online platform such as Google docs save a person’s work automatically thus removing the probability of losing your portfolio when you need it (Guzeller, 2012). Portfolios are significant as they supports one personal role and at the same time their professional and academic development.

An academic portfolio preparation is the first step in which a nursing scholar should take in the transition from the role of a student to the role of a professional graduate. Portfolios assist nurses in the planning of their careers. The portfolio provides the purpose of knowing the knowledge to attain, include the competencies one has developed, among other things. Thus, a portfolio can be said as an instrumental tool for one’s career plan.
